North Star Mattress Beginning

In 1994 North Star Mattress opened its doors. We built high quality mattresses and box springs right here in our factory and sold from our showroom on location. For years we enjoyed great success.

Industry change

In July of 2007 a new national flammability standard was in place. It is called 16 cfr 1633. What this called for was the accountability of the flame protection in all mattresses and foundations. This entailed expensive burning, testing and record keeping of all mattress and foundations that are built. Along with rising costs passed to small manufactures we decided that the added expense was just not worth the effort. We decided that we would have our mattresses built for us by local manufactures that can absorb the costs of the new standards and then we could take advantage of their buying power.

From Factory Direct to retail

This change actually went very smoothly. We did however change manufactures a few times in the first few years but we have finally selected the local Therapedic factory right here in Minneapolis to build everything we sell today. Their philosophy fit in just right with ours. They manufacture high quality products without added advertising co-op, sales spiffs, etc. I have visited their factory many times and have been very impressed with their quality, efficiency and service.

What you will see today

On our show floor, you will find over twenty models of mattress sets including innerspring, pocketed coil, all natural, and adjustable beds. We also carry pillows and mattress protectors.

North Star Mattress was purchased by Robb Stauber of Goalcrease Training Center and Pro-Shop in late 2013. General Manager, Kevin Azbell is still with the company, so you can expect the same level of customer service, excellence and knowledge.
